On December 28, 2015, approved by Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau,Shenzhen Institute of Terahertz Technology and Innovation officially listed.to establish.Mr. Liu Shenggang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Mr. Liu Yongcai, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Chen Biao, Vice Mayor of Shenzhen, Yao Yao, Mayor of Baoan District, Zhao Gang, Deputy Director of the International Science and Technology Cooperation Program Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology and a number of famous scholars from home and abroad attended the listing ceremony.
Shenzhen Institute of Terahertz Technology and Innovation is to explore the advanced research results at home and abroad and turn theresearch results to achievement transformationand industrial incubator. It aims to promote the economic transformation and upgrading of Shenzhen and the sustainable development of foreign trade growth. It is the first terahertz research instituteand the application of high level of internationalization, professional private non-profit organization. Shenzhen Institute of Terahertz Technology and Innovation sets up the Council, under the leadership of the President of the Executive Council, Mr. Liu Shenggang, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences was hired as first dean.
Shenzhen Institute of Terahertz Technology and Innovation’s research covers a range of terahertz research and development from the electronics to photonics 30GHz-4THz. In the early days of research and development its direction includes three aspects: terahertz human security imaging, terahertz spectroscopy biological detection, terahertz lunar rover communication and deep space exploration.
As the standing body of the series international conference in the field of THz which was based in Shenzhen and faced to the world, the institute aims to promote the worldwide cooperation in the application of terahertz and bring in excellent R&D achievements all over the world to carry out the achievement transformation of industry incubation. The institute will act as the bridge between the global THz research and the industry of THz, the THz industry will be molded into the pillar industry in Shenzhen with the support of the institute.
Shenzhen Institute of Terahertz Technology and Innovation was founded by China Communication Technology Co. Ltd (hereinafter referred to as "CCT"). CCT has been involved in THz research and industrialization since 2010. By the end of 2014, the institute has been able to test for 750 GHz in the field of terahertz. The capability of CCT has reached the domestic leading level to develop the THz sources and research the THz applications in security scanning. In December 2014, CCT established the Guangdong Academician Expert (CCT) Workstation led by Academician Prof. Liu Shenggang, focusing on the R&D of THz technology. The 1st Terahertz International Conference was successfully hosted by CCT in Shenzhen in August, 2015.
Terahertz industry in the world is still under development, and Shenzhen terahertz industrial base is in the domestic leading position.It has obvious advantages in promoting the application of terahertz industry and terahertz market. The establishment of the institute is bound to become an important milestone in the history of terahertz development.
